As part of this years' Winterlude Festival in Ottawa, GEC’s Maria Landry and former U of C Architecture classmate Chris vander Hoek co-designed an interactive art installation, named UrDU after “Urban Diffuser”. They worked in conjunction with Urban Visuals to create a sculptural wall that changes lighting levels in response to sound. The wall is built of re-claimed light diffuser panels from old fluorescent light fixtures, that have been formed into cylinders and stacked on top of each other. This video shows Chris making different sounds to see how the wall responds.

Check out the October 12, 2012 issue of Swerve Magazine. Robert Lemermeyer's beautiful photos give a great sneak peak at the West LRT's new stations, coupled with great text by Bruce Weir featuring quotes from Bob Stirling and Martin Jones of GEC. For the record, Martin put $5.00 in the swear jar on his desk after reading the first quote.
