History

Founded in 1966, GEC Architecture is one of the longest continually operating architecture firms in North America. The name on the door has changed a few times over the years, from DS Stevens and Partners to Graham Edmunds Cartier to GEC Architecture today. However, our philosophy and our focus have remained consistent.

GEC was started in Calgary by Don Stevens and Barry Graham - two partners with contrasting, yet complementary, skill sets and specialties. One’s work was grounded in context and analysis and excelled in the art of urban design and master planning. The other understood the importance of process and communication and could guide highly technically complex projects to completion.

Since then, we’ve grown our team, expanded our areas of expertise and created a diverse portfolio of significant, iconic buildings while always staying true to the values and process that launched the firm over forty years ago.
