Can an industrial plant look at home in the natural setting of a pristine river valley?
The Pine Creek Plant project presented GEC with the dual challenge of creating an advanced, sustainable wastewater treatment facility and ensuring the facility blended into the landscape in a highly visible location in the Bow River Valley. We used natural materials, including green roofs, to reduce the industrial appearance of the plant and massive earth berms to reduce the sense of size of the facility.
The design lends a civic and urban scale to an inherently industrial, non-urban campus. The plant achieved LEED™ Gold accreditation and an “A+” rating from environmental advocacy group the Sierra Fund.
