How do you make a hospice feel like a home?

The Rotary Flames House is a children’s hospice located right next door to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. The first of its kind in Alberta, the House is one of only 6 in Canada. The vision behind the design was to create a welcoming home-like environment focused on offering care, comfort and support for the whole family.

To realize that vision, we designed spaces that mirrored our favourite spaces in family homes, like dens, dress-up rooms, outdoor forts, decks, gardens and video game rooms. Everything is wheelchair-accessible, from the kid’s room and family suites to the kitchen and therapy rooms and 2-level outdoor play fort.
