Behind every great experience is a great host.
GEC Architecture is ecstatic to celebrate the official reveal of NAIT’s new Advanced Skills Centre, a landmark investment in Alberta’s skilled trades and technology future.
Supported by a historic $384 million capital investment from the Government of Alberta, the Advanced Skills Centre will significantly expand NAIT’s ability to deliver industry-leading training and help address the province’s skilled labour shortage. The project will bring together 29 trades and technology programs in a 625,000 square-foot facility on NAIT’s Main Campus, creating flexible and collaborative learning environments that mirror real work sites and prepare students for the evolving needs of industry.
GEC Architecture + DIALOG are honoured to serve as the design and engineering team for the project, working alongside PCL Construction as builder. Together, the project team is helping shape a next-generation learning environment that will support more than 15,000 trades and technology students each year once complete, including 5,500 additional learners annually.
For GEC, the Advanced Skills Centre reflects the responsibility and opportunity of designing complex public spaces with care. Behind every great experience is a great host—and in a setting dedicated to learning, making, and building, that means creating a place that anticipates what people need, supports hands-on discovery, and makes room for the collective experiences that move communities forward.
Early construction activity is expected to begin in spring 2026, with the first cohort of students anticipated in fall 2030.
We extend our congratulations to NAIT, the Government of Alberta, DIALOG, PCL Construction, and all partners helping bring this transformational project to life.
