Peter Osborne

Partner

Peter is a Partner at GEC and a Registered Architect in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. A LEED Accredited Professional, he views architecture as a way to give back by creating spaces that are inclusive, enduring, and deeply connected to the people and communities they serve.

With over two decades of experience, Peter combines technical expertise with a thoughtful approach to design. He holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University and a Diploma in Architectural Technology from NAIT. These credentials continue to shape his approach today: grounded, generous, and guided by the belief that good design should always serve a larger purpose.

Since joining GEC in 2011, Peter has helped establish the Edmonton studio and works on projects across the firm. His work spans many sectors, with a passion for post-secondary projects that not only transform campuses but also the learners and industries they support. No matter the project, Peter brings a rare blend of technical rigour and grounded empathy, leading with care, humour, and an unwavering focus on quality.

Peter believes the best outcomes come from designing with people, not just for them. He’s built lasting relationships by showing up honestly, listening closely, and caring deeply about what matters to his clients. Known for his dry wit, high standards, and ability to navigate complex decisions with clarity, puts himself in the client’s shoes, especially when navigating complex decisions with clarity, bringing authenticity and trust to every collaboration.

Peter’s most rewarding moments in a project happen at the bookends: the vision-setting conversations at the start, and the quiet satisfaction at the end, when a space is lived in, adapted and loved in ways even the design team could not have anticipated. He believes great design doesn’t just function well; it ensures that it becomes part of people’s lives.

Outside of work, Peter has taken up baking—bread, cookies, anything his kids and their friends will devour. He finds joy in sharing these simple creations with his wife and family, who are his greatest source of support and inspiration. For him, baking and architecture share the same reward: they are not for the maker, but for others.  Whether designing a space or sharing a loaf of fresh sourdough, Peter is drawn to the kind of work that nourishes people and brings them together.
