The Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park is more than a high-performance training facility—it’s a place where sport, community, and ambition come together. Created in partnership with WinSport, the Centre supports Olympic, Paralympic, and amateur athletes while offering space that welcomes the public and sparks inspiration in all who enter.
With a 2,500-seat international arena, three NHL-sized rinks, fitness and therapy facilities, flexible event spaces, and the home of both Hockey Canada and the Calgary Surge, the Centre is a dynamic hub for performance and growth. Our design approach brought together professional, community, and support functions under one roof, creating a cohesive space where athletes, coaches, researchers, and visitors can connect, collaborate, and thrive.
At the heart of the facility is a spacious, light-filled concourse, designed as both a circulation spine and a gathering place. It offers clarity and connection, guiding people intuitively through the building while allowing for events, performances, and spontaneous interactions. Every element of the design was shaped by thoughtful engagement with national sports organizations, local partners, and athletes to ensure the space works for the people who use it every day.
Decades in the making, the Markin MacPhail Centre is a shared vision brought to life through trust, collaboration, and a belief in what sport can do. It’s a place that nurtures excellence while creating space for everyone—from elite athletes to first-time skaters—to feel at home and inspired to reach for more.
“The Markin MacPhail Centre is more than our home court—it’s a hub of community, energy, and performance. The Surge thrive here, driven by fan support and a commitment to excellence in Calgary sport.”
