University City began with a bold idea: transform an underused site beside Calgary’s university into a lively, walkable community where people could live, shop, gather, and move comfortably on foot.

Knightsbridge Homes wanted a development that felt energetic and connected—a place that didn’t just house people but brought them together.

One of the biggest challenges was stitching together a mix of residential towers, townhomes, and retail spaces into a cohesive whole. Our solution was to design a pedestrian-first retail street at the heart of the project, creating a shared public realm that encourages everyday interaction. By shaping storefronts, tenant spaces, and the streetscape with intention, we created a retail corridor that feels open, welcoming, and naturally integrated with the surrounding neighbourhood.

The development promotes sustainable urban living by providing easy access to transit, bike routes, and everyday amenities. Energy-efficient systems and durable materials support long-term environmental performance, while a range of unit types—707 residences and 20 townhomes—offer choices for people at different stages of life.

Today, University City stands as a cornerstone of northwest Calgary’s growth. Its vibrant street life, accessibility, and mix of uses have helped revitalize the area, setting a new standard for mixed-use urban communities. More than a collection of buildings, University City is a place made for connection—one that invites people to slow down, walk a little more, and feel part of something larger.
