The upgraded baggage handling system at YYC’s Domestic Terminal improves speed, efficiency, and capacity, supporting seamless travel for millions of annual passengers.

Behind every smooth connection at YYC is a system designed to put people first.

When Calgary’s International Terminal Building (ITB) opened alongside the existing Domestic Terminal (DTB), a new challenge emerged: how to move baggage as seamlessly as passengers. Our team set out to design a system that could keep pace with Calgary’s role as a world-class aviation hub—one where travellers experience effortless connections, no matter where their journey takes them.

This transformation meant rethinking the flow of people and luggage from the ground up. Concourse B was converted for domestic use, creating a clear distinction between the ITB and DTB. The former bag hall was reimagined as a temporary check-in and screening area, giving airlines space to operate without disruption while major upgrades took place. Step by step, Air Canada and WestJet transitioned into newly built systems, supported by phased construction and continuous improvements to baggage handling.

Over six years, we worked behind the scenes to ensure the airport never missed a beat. The result is a modern, integrated baggage system that passengers may never see—but one they experience every time their luggage arrives on time. For us, success means keeping journeys seamless and travel stress-free.

The redesigned system features state-of-the-art sortation technology and an optimized layout, improving reliability and handling capacity for YYC’s Domestic Terminal operations.
