Building upon excellence in leisure, activity, athletics and competition.
The MNP Community & Sport Centre (formerly the Repsol Sport Centre) is a world-class facility dedicated to supporting the training and competition needs of high-performance athletes and the recreation needs of Calgary’s citizens. Located in the broader context of Lindsay Park, this well-known facility combines wet (aquatics) and dry (gymnasium and fitness) sports under one single roof and environment.
Since 2015, GEC has been working with the Lindsay Park Sports Society on a major renovation and expansion of the facility, in order to enhance the Centre’s ability to better serve Calgary’s inner city communities. The master plan, which was further developed and refined through the project’s journey, provided the foundations for subsequent strategies, design concepts and the construction phasing plan – all created within the Centre’s commitment to its dual mandate of first-in-class aquatic training and competition, and excellence in community fitness and recreation. In this first phase, a large addition to the facility’s west side, facing Lindsay Park, will add an expanded family aquatic centre and additional leisure opportunities. A large addition/expansion at the south will create a new entrance, public gathering areas, and universal public and team dressing rooms.
The programming at the MNP Community & Sport Centre is multifaceted. Alongside aquatic activities, the Centre features five gyms, a running track, a sizable fitness area, and diverse fitness and wellness programs. Beyond fitness and recreation offerings, the facility includes several multi-purpose rooms that serve as communal spaces for various gatherings, including community association meetings. This diversity in programming reflects the Centre’s commitment to meeting the varied needs and interests of the surrounding community. In addition to the aquatic expansion, the redevelopment of the MNP Community & Sport Centre is also reimagining an existing urban site where connections to the surrounding neighbourhoods, parks and outdoor amenities are central to the project’s conception and success.
The MNP Community & Sport Centre will begin construction in September 2024 and remain open until construction is complete in time for the 2027 North American Indigenous Games.
