The Lister Centre Redevelopment at the University of Alberta’s main campus comprises the modernization of Kelsey, Mackenzie and Henday Halls. This multi-phased project entails a complete renovation of each of these 1960s-era student residence towers, which is being completed over several years in order to limit the impact to ongoing campus operations. Each renovation includes a refresh of the suites and common spaces in each tower (such as common areas, study spaces, kitchen and gym). Base building mechanical and electrical services in each tower are also being upgraded to improve the heating, lighting, ventilation and fire suppression systems. The exterior of each residence is being retrofitted with photovoltaic shading systems, which will improve thermal comfort and produce onsite, renewable energy. The redevelopment of the Lister Centre towers will transform and modernize the existing buildings to enhance the campus experience for 1,500 student residents, and aims to fulfil the objectives outlined in the University of Alberta’s Institutional Strategic Plan.

Mackenzie Hall is an 11-storey building that was constructed in 1967, and Henday and Kelsey Halls are both 10-storey towers that were both constructed in 1962. All three towers have 33 suites and three all-gender washrooms on a typical floor.
