Healthy activity choices for a diverse student body.
To accommodate a major expansion to the Athletics, Recreation and Physical Education programs, GEC developed a prototype building expansion for Mount Royal University. This expansion includes a new gymnasium sized for three basketball courts and seating for 2,000 spectators, an elevated running track, a 12-metre high climbing wall, squash courts, concession area, fitness centre, varsity area, renovated and expanded locker rooms, and a new loading and storage facility.
The Recreation & Wellness Centre was specifically designed to allow for maximum usage. It is used for teaching, training, and coaching as well as for recreation and wellness. Atypically, the space also offers itself to the university for convocation ceremonies and other campus assembly activities.
The Wellness Centre, a Student Services facility, was incorporated into the facility and includes medical offices, counselling services, a physiotherapy clinic, as well as a kinesiology classroom that provides 20 practice beds for physiotherapy students.
