In 2004, the University Innovation Park (UIP) redeveloped its mission and vision for the park. As part of their goal to be in the top 10% of research parks in North America, the board commissioned GEC Architecture to conduct a master planning exercise.

The primary objective of the master plan was to make the park more attractive to start-up enterprises and their investors.
