3M Arena at Mariucci

Home to the NCAA’s University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The 3M Arena at Mariucci is a 9,600-seat facility designed for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team. The venue provides an ideal teaching and working environment for the players and coaches and serves as a first-class spectator facility where the fan experience is key.

The arena features a single bowl seating configuration for greater spectator intimacy; a 240 seat “Gold Room” with superior sightlines for University Alumni, and an open concourse at the top of the seating bowl allowing visual continuity and accessibility.

We have designed the facility in collaboration with Opus Corporation and Opus Architects and Engineers of Minneapolis. The arena represents the first design-build project undertaken by the University. Using conventional construction techniques within a tighter time frame, the design-build format allowed completion of the project to be $3 million below originally projected costs.

For over 24 years the arena has functioned as a premier University athletic facility receiving praise from athletes, coaches, and spectators, and sports authorities. In 2007, 14 years after completion, Sports Illustrated ranked it a Top 10 College Sports Venue.
