The Administration and Laboratory Complex was the first phase of the Alberta Research Council’s combined facilities providing space for a multi-faceted environment.

The Administration and Laboratory Complex was the first phase of the Alberta Research Council combined facilities. The solution to providing facilities for the council was as much an integrated system of components as it was a multifaceted environment which combined the Administrative headquarters with a variety of flexible and functional research facilities.

The Alberta Research Council Headquarters was constructed as an office, research and development facility, and as an incubator for emerging technologies. It includes conventional wet chemistry and related laboratory areas as well as high and low hazard high head laboratory and pilot plant areas. The high head areas are generically serviced so researchers can gain access to mechanical and electrical services with minimal change to the building. In this building, the Alberta Research Council has lived up to its promise to support and foster emerging technologies. The building has accommodated a significant number of industries and research projects over time to the extent that not a single activity or project underway at the time of construction is presently in the building. This is a testament to the building’s flexibility and its adaptability.
