Civic Precinct Surface and City Hall Fountain Rehabilitation

A vibrant year-round hub.

The Civic Precinct Fountain and Surface Renewal is an integrated urban design and landscape solution that will revitalize one of Edmonton’s most important public spaces. GEC is working with the City of Edmonton to develop a revitalization plan that creates a vibrant public environment that accommodates citizens of all abilities and engages them year-round with pool/fountain in the summer and ice rink in the winter.

The space will function as a community hub for citizens and visitors to gather and form new connections with the City. We are working with the City to create an iconic and functional destination that respects the heritage and importance of the Civic Precinct. It is important that this project reinforce and strengthen the Civic Precinct as the centre for civic life. The renewal must showcase the cultural history of Edmonton as a cohesive space that is modern and forward thinking while celebrating the site’s heritage.

Edmonton is a winter city and has made significant investments in encouraging citizens to engage with the City year round. The design of our major civic centre supports this critical initiative by providing opportunities for diverse uses and implementing durable vegetation and materials.
