Bringing the community together.
GEC Architecture was approached by the Strathearn Community League to design a replacement for their existing community hall. GEC collaborated with community league members to provide a project that was ‘naturally urban’ creating a unique design that was shaped to reflect the dynamic nature of its surroundings.
The south face of the community hall mirrors its proximity to an urban edge, creating a resilient façade while gesturing towards the main hall entrance. The north face opens up to the park and incorporates a colloquial residential feel; one that elucidates a community’s back yard. The building takes advantage of adjacent green space to provide an amenity for indoor and outdoor activities year-round and invites the community to recognize it as a hub for years to come.
