The Art Of Model Making: Shane Homes YMCA At Rocky Ridge

August 7, 2020

GEC, physical model making is a feature of our design process. It takes dexterity, precision, and patience to carefully calculate and construct the model’s geometry, elevations and structure in order to assemble the final product for viewing. Here, we showcase a few of the models for the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge  –  a new multi-purpose recreation centre in Calgary’s northwest. For this project, it was important to show the unique character and geometry of the large-scale glulam beams that help to define the building’s curvilinear roof design, which was inspired by the foothills nestled in the surrounding landscape.
