Three supportive housing projects are transforming spaces into communities where people can heal, grow, and thrive.

Edmonton is taking meaningful steps to address homelessness through the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI), a national program that helps communities create safe, affordable homes quickly for those who need them most. In this third round of RHI, three supportive housing projects are coming to life in neighbourhoods across Edmonton—each one designed to be more than housing, but a place of stability, dignity, and belonging.

Completed in summer 2025, the Holyrood Supportive Housing project is the first of three buildings completed as part of Edmonton's Rapid Housing Initiative #3 program.

Opening in August 2025, Holyrood Supportive Housing will welcome 63 residents into a safe and permanent home. Thoughtfully designed, the four-storey building incorporates Indigenous artwork and native plantings to honour the community it serves. Every suite includes a fully accessible washroom, and the building exceeds national energy-efficiency standards by 25%. Operated by the George Spady Society, the residence will offer wraparound supports in a healing environment where people can feel seen, respected, and supported as they rebuild their lives.

In the vibrant Garneau neighbourhood, a new supportive housing development is under way to provide 34 one-bedroom homes, five of which are fully barrier-free. Managed by Homeward Trust, with services delivered by a local non-profit, this project will offer more than shelter—it will give residents the chance to grow life skills, strengthen wellness, and build lasting community connections. When it opens in 2026, Garneau’s newest neighbours will find not just housing, but a true pathway to belonging.

In west Edmonton, Canora will soon welcome 63 new one-bedroom homes, including nine designed to be barrier-free. Like Garneau, this residence will be a supportive community where residents can heal, learn, and thrive with dignity. Construction began in fall 2024, with completion expected in winter 2026. Once open, it will be operated by a trusted non-profit partner to ensure each resident has access to the care and support they need to build a healthy, independent future.

Together, these three projects will create nearly 160 supportive homes, each one a promise of compassion and stability. By investing in housing rooted in dignity and care, Edmonton is helping to build inclusive neighbourhoods where everyone has the chance to feel safe, supported, and at home.

“Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Through the Rapid Housing Initiative, we are quickly providing new affordable housing units for people who need them most, right across Canada, including right here in Edmonton."

-  The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities
