The Valley Line LRT is a city-building project at its core. It connects communities, enriches the public realm, and sets the foundation for a more accessible and sustainable Edmonton.

Designing transit that connects communities, enriches public spaces, and fits seamlessly into the city’s fabric.

The Edmonton Valley Line LRT is more than a transit expansion—it’s a city-building initiative designed to strengthen neighbourhood connections, support walkable communities, and create a more accessible future for all Edmontonians.

As part of the AECOM-led Owner’s Engineer team, GEC helped shape the architecture and urban design vision for the 26-kilometre line, which includes 29 new low-floor stations—11 of them along the southeast leg. Our work included developing the reference design and procurement documentation, evaluating design-build proposals, and ensuring design and construction compliance throughout the process.

To guide every detail, we authored the Sustainable Urban Integration (SUI) Guidelines—ensuring that each station, traction power substation, and elevated transit centre contributes meaningfully to its surrounding context and public realm. From the Churchill Square Connector downtown to the Operations and Maintenance Facility—and with public art woven into every stop—our focus has been on creating a people-first transit experience that fits seamlessly within Edmonton’s evolving urban fabric.
